Bees, May 20th is their day
Bees are essential for maintaining the biodiversity of flora and fauna.
We all know them for their honey production, but their great importance comes from the fact that at the same time they pollinate a great variety of plants.
During the transport of pollen to their hive, they release part of it, which in turn falls on other plants, which are then fertilised.
Monocultures, deforestation and pollution are the main factors for the disappearance of bees.
And the good news is that we can help from the small urban garden we have at home.
Planting small aromatic herbs such as thyme or lavender will attract them and in turn help to pollinate some of our crops such as courgettes.
One of the great defenders of bees is Greenpeace, we encourage you to read the more extensive information they offer us and to participate in some of their actions.
In March, the organisation Ecologistas en acción also started collecting signatures to promote a European citizens initiative. They are about to reach 500,000 signatures.
